Altitude Wind Tunnels
Altitude wind tunnels extend the simulation capability of Climatic wind tunnels by adding altitude simulation. This testing regime is important to help automobile designers understand the impact of operating at altitudes up to 5,000 meters (16,400 feet) on the engine and subsystem performance. Altitude simulation is provided by making the complete air circuit air tight and adding an altitude system to simulate the atmospheric pressure. This type of tunnel has airlock access for personnel and additional safety features to allow safe operation at the reduced pressure inherent when operating at altitude.
